Dedicated Employee

Public Transportation in Los Angeles which consists of the buses and the train systems is the responsibility of the MTA Metropolitan Transportation Authority previously known as the RTD Rapid Transit District.

Arthur Winston worked as a Service Attendant Leader in the South Los Angeles MTA Division that was named after him in 1997. Up to his final days he was responsible for a crew of 11 employees that cleaned, maintained and refueled the metro buses.

He retired from the MTA in March of 2006 on his 100th birthday after 72 years of service as an employee for the company. During his 72 years of employment, he only missed one day of work when he took the day off to go to his wife’s funeral in 1988. I know alot of people who cannot even make it 72 days without missing one day of work.

Unfortunately, Arthur Winston did not get to enjoy very much time as a retired person because he died in April 2006, just a few weeks after he retired.
